Amanda and AnnaMaria first found each other found each 18 years ago when they dated as teenagers. They were each other’s first loves, and despite later going on to lead separate lives they kept in close touch. They finally reunited to catch up in 2019, and soon realized, according to Amanda, “Just like out first time together, a friendship alone just wasn’t enough, so we reunited as a couple.”
Both women are originally from Massachusetts and relocated to Virginia Beach in 2023. “We immediately fell in love with the beauty, fun, and community Virginia Beach has to offer,” said Amanda. “We have an almost six-year-old daughter who absolutely loves her school and peer community.”
When they heard that Hampton Roads Pride was taking applications for couples to get married at Pridefest, they knew the time was right for them. They applied, paid the $100 fee (which goes to Pride’s Scholarship program) and were accepted. Wedding services were donated by Pride’s team of selected wedding professionals.
“This is such a wonderful opportunity for couples, especially for those without family nearby or those who have unsupportive family.” said Amanda. “We were shocked that we won, but also amazed at such generosity from Hampton Roads Pride and their wedding professional partners both before and during the wedding.”
Says Amanda about their special day, “It was a beautiful experience to be surrounded by such professionalism and now friendship, and we’re excited to give our vendors a shout out. We are so, so grateful to Hampton Roads Pride and everyone that helped make our day unforgettable.”
