Hampton Roads is set to honor the transgender community this Tuesday with a local celebration of the International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV). Hosted by a coalition of local organizations—the Southeastern Transgender Resource Center, the Transgender Assistance Program of Virginia (TAP VA), and the LGBT Life Center—the event will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Under the banner "Trans Voices: Then, Now, and Forever," the 2026 celebration focuses on the enduring resilience and history of transgender and gender-expansive individuals within the Hampton Roads region.
While the official international day is observed every March 31 to highlight the systemic discrimination and barriers the community faces, organizers emphasize that the day is also a profound celebration of existence and legacy.
