Blessing of the Animals
Saturday October 8, 2022
9am – Noon
We hope you will join us this Saturday (come by anytime between 9am – Noon) – along with your pets and animal friends for this very special outdoor blessing and celebration.
Amazing, isn’t it? …at just how close we become and attached to our pets and special animal friends – be they furry, feathered or other critters.
Saint Francis of Assisi, the founder of the Catholic Franciscan order, was known in particular for his love of creation and all things living. Thus, he became the patron saint of animals and the environment. While initially a Catholic practice, through the years it has become the custom in other faith traditions as well to observe a special celebration near the feast of St. Francis (October 4) – known today as the blessing of animals. In this celebration, we give thanks and praise to God for all of creation and for the special companionship we often find with our furry or feathered friends and other critters.
