Presented by Virginia Arts Festival. Ask any Hampton Roads fan how to spell jazz and they’ll tell you: J-A-E.
The veteran performer, composer and radio producer/host Jae Sinnett’s name is synonymous with jazz in the region. His “Sinnett in Session” show on NPR affiliate WHRV-FM is still swinging after 35 years; his discography includes 20 recordings that contain compelling renditions of standards as well as new music; and his composition library boasts more than 250 works including those written for ensemble, orchestra and documentary scores.
In this must-hear October 12 performance, Jae gathers some of the region—and the world’s—most acclaimed players for an irresistible evening of jazz on the main stage of Norfolk’s historic Attucks Theatre, including longtime collaborators Allen Farnham on piano and Terry Burrell on bass. For this special evening, Jae welcomes Grammy-nominated trumpeter Randy Brecker, whose storied career has included stints with Blood, Sweat & Tears, Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, Clark Terry’s Big Band, the Horace Silver Quintet and more; and Italian saxophonist Ada Rovatti, a sought-after side player on multiple continents and a favorite at international jazz festivals.
