Beat the Bots was started in 2022 as a volunteer effort.
While pursuing my undergraduate degree, I sent out around a hundred resumes the summer before classes started and never heard back from anyone. I ended up working odd jobs such as delivery driver, handyman, personal chef, personal assistant, tutor, pet sitter and grocery store baker to make ends meet, all while attending class full time.
After graduation, I read an article from The Harvard Business School (read it here if you have an hour!) about how most companies use something called ATS to pre-screen applications. This type of software is written by tech bros who just want to sell a product, and it often results in a lot of qualified people not getting jobs.
That study above estimates there are as many as 27 million people in the U.S. alone who aren’t getting the work that they want and qualify for because of bad software throwing good resumes away!
I did some research on how to reformat my resume to pass ATS pre-screening and I was hired within a week! I was angry I had wasted so much time applying without results. I decided to start teaching classes about what I learned at my local Community Center, as well as helping out friends and family.
I decided to help combat all the bad job hunting information out there that had cost myself and each of my clients hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars in missed wages.
