Local photographer Beth Austin took her camera to the streets this month and captured the many faces of Pride Hampton Roads Pridefest in Norfolk, Phabulous Phoebus Pride in Hampton, and Pride in the ‘Peake in Chesapeake creating a a beautiful visual record of the community’s diversity.
Beth is an award winning photographer whose book Without Apology: Portraits of Pride was published in December 2023. The book, a celebratory portrait collection of local LGBTQ+ people accompanied by their written statements, was originally a social media campaign commissioned by Hampton Roads Pride in 2017.
Beth’s work has also been featured in local music and entertainment publications, as well as The Nation, The Washington Post, RVA Magazine, and the cover of Sinister Wisdom 106: The Lesbian Body. She resides in Norfolk, Virginia with her wife Loriely and their cat Bowie Stardust.
