  • June 23, 2026

The Virginia Queer Film Festival, Inc. this week launched a Go Fund Me giving campaign for the newly established Andrew Roberts Scholarship Fund. Once fully realized the scholarship will be awarded annually to an undergraduate or graduate student in a higher education film-making program who is seeking funding for an existing or planned film project that explores the diversity of the LGBTQ community.

"Our goal with this scholarship is to support LGBTQ filmmakers as well as film projects that incorporate Southern LGBTQ voices," said Festival Founder and Director, Eric Hause. "

Andrew was an artist, a creator, and a highly visible and active member of Hampton Roads LGBTQ+ community. He co-founded the Virginia Queer Film Festival with his husband, Eric, who is the festival director. Andrew was an advocate for all marginalized communities and worked tirelessly for the rights and acceptance of all.

The Virginia Queer Film Festival is now in its fourth year of providing access to original works of films by, for, and about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people and their families, and a forum for LGBTQ+ filmmakers to share and discuss their work with audiences. The annual Film Festivals are held with the on the campus of Old Dominion University. This Festival is the first of its kind in Virginia and one of only a handful of LGBTQ+ film festivals in the American South.
