Presented by Virginia Arts Festival. “An immense and perfectly balanced engine” (The Guardian, UK).
Led by nine-time GRAMMY winner (with an astonishing 32 nominations!) and winner of the Pulitzer Prize and National Medal of the Arts Wynton Marsalis, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra is the emblem of jazz for the United States and the world – and a swingin’ great time for audiences. It is thrilling to hear this legendary orchestra, deemed by many a national treasure and beloved by audiences the world around. It was even more of a thrill in 2023, when they joined the Virginia Arts Festival in creating a residency and adjudicated competition for jazz ensembles from Historically Black Colleges and Universities. To hear these inspired young musicians perform alongside these seasoned jazz stars was an extraordinary experience. Now, a new roster of HBCU bands will join Marsalis and the Orchestra for an experience they will long remember—and you will too.
