COVA Coalition and friends Indivisible, Red Wine and Blue, Community Circles, Network NOVA, Virginia Grassroots and our allies and activists are joining forces to say “hands off” our freedoms and liberties with a rally at Town Point Park on April 5, 11am-2pm. The “Hands Off!” movement is part of a national coalition of progressive organizations, including Indivisible, MoveOn, and 50501, organizing nationwide protests on April 5, 2025, to oppose policies enacted by President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The movement aims to resist cuts to public services, threats to civil liberties, and the perceived undermining of democratic institutions.
The movement emphasizes nonviolent action and seeks to build a broad opposition to policies they view as detrimental to democracy and public welfare. Organizers encourage widespread participation to demonstrate collective resistance against the current administration’s actions.
“This mass mobilization day is our message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies,” organizers said in a press release. “Alongside Americans across the country, we are marching, rallying, and protesting to demand a stop the chaos and build an opposition movement against the looting of our country.”
The primary demonstration is scheduled in Washington, D.C., at the Washington Monument from 12:00 PM to 3:30 PM EDT. Additional protests are planned in various cities across the United States, including Raleigh, NC; San Francisco, CA; and New York City, NY.
