The 2024 Virginia Queer Film Festival is moving its flagship event to September 20-22 and a new home on the campus of Old Dominion University at the Michael and Kimthanh Lê Digital Theater and Planetarium.
The second annual festival will continue the tradition established in 2023 by screening original feature, documentary, and short films by, for, and about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, and queer people. The Festival also offers a a forum for LGBTQ+ filmmakers to share and discuss their work with attendees and fellow independent filmmakers and directors.
“We’re well on our way to a great second year,” said Eric Hause, President and Festival Director. “We’ve received 54 amazing original film submissions–a record number–from all across the globe.”
In addition to the films, the Festival will host filmmaker talkbacks, educational workshops, and an opening and awards ceremony.
With the positive support of an all-volunteer board, generous sponsors, and partners such as Gilead Pharmaceutical Services, Norfolk Arts, Old Dominion University, Outlife757 Magazine, Virginia Tourism Corporation, the Arts Alliance, and MJs Tavern, this second year of the Festival will follow its mission to celebrate inclusiveness through the storytelling power of original filmmaking.
